Carlos Gaona, MD is from Frisco, Texas and is a proud graduate of Frisco High School. From there he went to Texas A&M University where he graduated Magna Cum Laude. He majored in Biomedical Engineering with two minors in Math and Spanish. While there he worked on a project to develop an autonomous medical diagnostic device. It was at this point that his love for medicine was cemented. Dr. Gaona spent time volunteering as a medical assistant at a family practice medical clinic and gained entry to The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. His dedication to the underserved brought him to Brownsville, Texas where he had the opportunity to work one-on-one with surgical staff and his passion for surgery blossomed.
As the Valedictorian of his medical school, Dr. Gaona had his choice of residencies and decided to return to his hometown to train at the prestigious Baylor University Medical Center at Dallas. While there he became actively involved in multiple medical and surgical societies. He earned the honor and distinction of his staff and peers and was honored with Intern of The Year award as well as Resident of The Year award. With his background in Biomedical Engineering, Dr. Gaona always has an eye toward the future of surgery and new medical technologies and developments. He participated in a Surgical Robotics training course in Houston, Texas and intends to bring a strong robotic surgical presence to our community here in Frisco. Dr. Gaona lives here with his growing family and looks forward to bringing quality patient care to Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Centennial.
